Feng Shui
Is Feng Shui an art or science? Some say it’s
both, but regardless, knowledge and experience make the difference in a
consultation.
Feng Shui is an ancient practice that originated in China, and is
based on thousands of years of experience and knowledge.
Briefly, Feng means ‘wind’ and Shui means
‘water’, and both involve Qi or Chi meaning ‘energy’, the invisible life
force found in everything. There is Qi that is beneficial and Qi that is
harmful, but regardless of the influence of either, you might say that Qi
moves with the wind and is influenced by water. This is true whether it is
cosmic or personal Qi.
All things, including people, are made up of energy, and all vibrate at
their own frequencies. Therefore, it follows that if there is a disturbance
in ones' environment it would manifest as disharmony or stress.
Feng Shui is the practice of designing an
environment conducive to good health and a prosperous life by bringing one’s energetic surroundings into harmonious balance. This is
accomplished
by either using a remedy or an enhancement of the energy in question.
Through Insight into the energetic needs of
the space, environment, or person, the opportunity opens up for proper
clearing to take place, and the Designs of Feng Shui to be anchored.
I’ve heard some people say they’re reluctant to use Feng Shui,
because the remedies they’ve heard about or seen being used don’t match
their decorating style. This doesn't have to be a problem.
It’s not just a case of moving furniture around. A good Feng Shui
consultant should respect the homeowners sense of style, and incorporate
solutions that are meaningful and consistent with the owners design.
There are several schools of Feng Shui, with the Land Form taking
precedence. The other complementary schools and disciplines of Feng Shui
can also be used in a consultation. It depends on what depth one wants or
needs to go to, given the individual case.
There are now many books written about Feng Shui, so I won’t go in to details
here, but if you are interested in reading up on the subject, I’m happy to
share my own reference list of books and authors with you.
